Each year, Zollner launches approx. 3000 products for around 600 customers with lot sizes starting from 1 - with no upper limit - following the customer’s product cycle. Hence, Zollner has to adapt lot sizes, depending on the quantities, and organize its manufacturing capacities on the basis of the pull-principle.

The system Tecnomatix from Siemens PLM Software supports in terms of software – a platform following the principle of the Digital Factory, which Zollner is going to introduce at all sites after a pilot project has been completed successfully.
Tecnomatix provides flexible planning, analysis and administration of manufacturing processes for entire lines and individual operations. At the same time, the platform supports the intensification of Zollner’s Lean-Management approach.
“We have to control a wide range of branches, products and lot sizes. Meanwhile, price and delivery times determine the market. Achieving this goal will be decisive for success. “For this, we need tools, providing standards and more stable processes, which make us faster and more flexible” said Roland Heigl, Head of Dept. Process Planning at Zollner. The decision in favour of Tecnomatix was taken during a Benchmark project, a live test lasting for several months.

“The successful application of the Tecnomatix Software in a pilot project and the optimization of several, already existing, small production processes at the same time, led to significant savings” Heigl explains. Zollner is going to introduce the platform at the German sites step by step. The idea is that a three-man team, being responsible for the Digital Factory in the headquarters in Zandt, Bavaria, trains the worldwide 50 process planners in how to use the software in order to implement it in each production site in the medium-term.

The automotive industry is becoming a highly important market sector in Asia. Also our Chinese company in Taicang receives more and more inquiries asking for automotive products.

Thus, the management decided to have the Taicang factory certified according to the automotive standard ISO / TS 16949 in addition to the existing quality and environmental standards DIN EN ISO 9001

In October 2009, all organizational units in the Taicang factory were successfully certified. “The Taicang site runs a well introduced management system according to ISO / TS 16949”, DEKRA lead auditor Bernhard Kneidl summed up. He had audited the whole factory comprehensively for two days, together with co-auditor Cou Dai Liang.

A company being as successful on the world market as Zollner has to pay special attention on internal structures of administration and production since inconsistent and incomplete production files may lead to costly errors.

Consequently, the aim of Zollner’s management is to collect all documents, regardless of the file format, in a central Content Management Platform. This way, the staffs in the German, Hungarian and Romanian sites have a closed and consistent view on business processes. At the same time, costs for the manual document filing should be reduced.

After years of planning and preparation the contract was awarded. In the end, the ECM company Heilig und Schubert was commissioned to install a comprehensive document management system. The decision to award the contract was the homogeneous range of software in order to meet ALL requirements with just ONE archive system. Moreover, the company Heilig und Schubert has 20 years of experience in development and project management.
