With the passing of the RoHS Directive [2002/95/EC] on 27.01.2003 the EU paved the way for a new "lead-free, RoHS-compliant" era for electrical and electronic equipment. With effect from 1 July 2006 electrical and electronic devices marketed in the EU may not contain any lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium VI compounds or the two flame retardants PBB and PBDE.
Zollner Elektronik AG, as a global, environmentally-conscious company, has long been working intensively on the technical and logistical implementation of this EU directive. We consider compliance with this statutory requirement to be an important element in our corporate policy.
Thanks to an intensive preparation phase, the RoHS guideline could be successfully implemented for all relevant products and product categories on the 1st of July 2006. Thereby, an important factor of success was the creation of a process map covering the complete RoHS processes in the SAP system. Hence, Zollner is able to provide all employees, involved in the changeover process, with the necessary up-to-date information.
By means of this integrated SAP solution, the "RoHS status" of the bought-in parts can be continuously traced from the order to goods receipt up to storage. On the basis of differently marked production documents our production staff can distinguish between RoHS-compliant and non-compliant production orders.
A substantial investment volume was necessary to adapt the machinery in order to be able to cover the changed RoHS conformal processes. In the meantime the company Zollner is in the position to provide all production steps in both process versions. Since many customers whose products fall under an exception of the RoHS guideline are on the way to start their changeover process in the next time, Zollner is supporting all process variants further on.
Our intensively trained staff being familiar with all the Zollner internal process steps is able to competently support our customers and suppliers regarding any questions on RoHS and the RoHS change-over. |
