Martin Zeil visited Zandt on August 31, 2011 for a tour of the main location of the Zollner company. Other guests in attendance for the minister’s visit were Franz Weichselgartner (representing the Government of Upper Palatinate), Michael Dankerl (Deputy District Administrator of the Cham district), and the Mayor of the municipality of Zandt, Ludwig Klement.Company founder Manfred Zollner warmly welcomed the visitors to Zandt, with a special welcome for the Bavarian Secretary of Commerce and Deputy Prime Minister Martin Zeil.
Manfred Zollner was also joined for this visit by other members of the supervisory board and the managing board.
The greetings were followed by a presentation by the Chairman of the managing board, Johann Weber, which included an introduction to the company and highlighted a few of the issues the company currently faces. These included such issues as sustaining the Cham district’s development area, the poor infrastructure, the promotion of commerce and industry, and the inadequacy of the DSL network connection, which the ¬Secretary described as being “as important today as water and power.”
On the topic of the development region, Mr. Weber emphasized that “The district of Cham must remain a development area.” Manfred Zollner also had the following to say on the topic of promoting trade and industry: “In order to put ambitious plans into action in the years to come, what we need is a reliable, simple, and time-efficient process for business development. … If we can get the same help as others, it will work.”
Martin Zeil was especially impressed by the passion being shown in the efforts to keep young people in the region for their education. The political leader considers facilities like the technology campus in Cham to be indispensable.
To give the visitors a chance to learn about the technologies and services at Zollner Elektronik AG, Manfred Zollner and Johann Weber led them on a tour of the company.
Due to a delay in the minister’s arrival and the tightness of the schedule, the tour unfortunately had to be cut short.
Nonetheless the Secretary did manage to get a sense of a company that is an innovative, competent partner with extensive expertise in high-complexity mechatronics products and individual system solutions in the electrical and electronics industry. Secretary Zeil wrapped up the event by thanking all those in attendance for their generous welcome; he promised to return and to do so when he had more time. |
